Finance Assistant

Uganda Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) Project is a USAID-funded project fulfilling the Presidential Malaria Initiative (PMI) in Uganda. The program provides technical and implementation assistance to the Ministry of Health and National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) to support all aspects of the national IRS program, covering ten priority districts in northern Uganda.

Abt Associates, the prime contractor of this program seeks to recruit a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of:

Finance Assistant (Kampala)
Specific responsibilities include:
Maintains the filing of all financial and accounting documents, files, and correspondence.
Assists the Accoutant with compiling the documentation for the monthly financial reports in accordance with Abt Associates procedures and policies to be forwarded for final review to the Deputy Chief of Party F&A.
Assists with recording expenditures, income, and any other related transactions, in the Abt site office financial tracking/recording program (currently Quicken).
Assist the Accountant to ensure the books of accounts are up to date at all times, orderly, well kept, and readily available for reference and audit, when required.
Assist the Accoutant with drafting official project correspondence and composing routine correspondence to vendors, bank, partners, etc.
Assist the Accountant in the handling payments at events/workshops, trainings, and other activities.
Assist the Accountant in compiling estimates for the monthly cash projections for review by the DCOP, Finance & Admin.
Assists the Deputy COP F&A and Accountant in the implementation of the internal control system and financial procedures manual of the company.
Maintains a log of VAT vouchers in excess of $500 and submits the vouchers to USAID on a monthly basis to process.
Provide any other support to the Accountant and Deputy COP F&A as needs arise.

Qualification requirements:
Completion of Diploma in Accounts or Business Administration (minimum) or Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, or other relevant field (desirable)
At least 3 years of professional experience in providing accounting, bookkeeping, or administration assistance.
Experience with accounting software. Quickbooks experience is an added advantage.
Excellent computer skills including excellent knowledge and experience with Windows, Word, Excel.
Excellent inter-personal communication skills and excellent organization skills.
Experience with USAID or other donor project and knowledge of FARs and AIDARs highly desirable.
English language proficiency is required.
