The Medical Research Council / Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on AIDS based at Uganda Virus Research Institute Entebbe invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill positions available under a new project, the Health Systems and Chronic Diseases Project (HSCDP.) The MRC/UVRI Research Unit on AIDS is a bilateral multi-disciplinary research organisation funded by Medical Research Council (UK), DFID (UK) and other donor organisations. The successful candidates will contribute to a new research project seeking to generate data to inform policy on the care and prevention of chronic diseases (CDs). The main aim of the 1st year or initial phase of this project is to assess the current burden of CDs both at the population level and at the health services level in 2 districts in Uganda.


Position: Nursing Officers (2)
Job purpose: The Nursing Officers are responsible for collection of accurate data from a population survey and a health facility survey: and for collection of blood and other study samples.
Duration: 9 months Roles & Responsibilities

Individual and community mobilisation for participation in the population survey
Explaining study purpose to potential participants
Obtaining informed consent from study participants
Administering questionnaires to population survey participants
Drawing blood samples from study participants
Providing on the spot treatment for simple ailments for participants in the population survey
Providing health education for participants in the population survey
Ordering for supplies/consumables for survey teams
Scheduling appointments for survey teams’ re-visits
Requirement:
Education, Skills and Experience needed – Nursing Officer

Registered Nurse
3 or more years work experience in research setting
Experience in the public healthcare sector is highly desirable
Fluency in English and Luganda
Salary: - USD/month
