Maternal Child Health Officer

Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is to improve accessibility of professional quality maternal and child health services through the private health sector facilities. On the other hand, UHMG is aiming at improving behavioral practices at a household level so as to prevent situations that threaten the health of both the mother and the child.

This position requires an innovative person with specific hands on knowledge and skills in planning, designing, implementing and monitoring maternal and child health programs especially in prevention activities, with an understanding of social cultural and economic issues related to maternal child health. The person should be results-driven, able to deliver on set targets, with networking capabilities, and able to manage competing priorities.

Essential Job Functions:
The MCH Officer will be specifically responsible for the following tasks:-
1. Build the capacity of Good life clinics to offer quality MCH services.
2. Amend existing MOUs with selected GLCs and orient owners/In-charges on 2011/2012 UHMG work plan.
3. Conduct MCH trainings for service providers from selected Good life clinics (IMCI, Goal oriented ANC and basic (EMOC) Procure and distribute MCH basic equipment and supplies to selected Good life clinics.
4. Procure and distribute MCH data collection tools for the Good life clinics.
5. Guide and mentor the providers in selected Good life clinics to implement the integrated package of MCH services through continuous on-site support supervision using nationally approved guidelines and policies.
6. Stock the Good life clinics with UHMG promoted health products.
7. Regular monitoring, documentation and timely reporting of progress both at the health facility and community level using appropriate reporting tools.

Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in Public health or Social sciences; A medical background by training or through work exposure is an added advantage; Excellent knowledge and sound understanding of current issues and developments in the field of Maternal health, Family planning and Child health. Good report writing and presentation skills coupled with good knowledge of Ms. Office programs including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. At least 3 years experience working in Reproductive Health or Maternal and Child health programming. Experience in working with National and community MCH intervention programs; Specific hands-on knowledge and skills in Planning, designing, implementing and monitoring maternal and child health programs especially in prevention approaches. Should be flexible, team players, innovative, with proposal writing skills. Able to work with a multi-cultural environment within the organisation.
