Medical Officer

Responsibilities: General Summary: The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical care to patients attending the assigned clinics, reviewing patient files and laboratory test results to ensure continuity of care of the patients, participate in teaching/ training programs (CME's) as well as participation in the project's management activities.
Key responsibilities:

Clinical activities
1. Offer a professional medical service to clients attending the IDI/KCC project supported clinics 2. Initiate clients on appropriate ART programmes at the supported KCCA clinics. 3. Plan and conduct CME sessions for KCCA health workers to build their capacity in HIV/ AIDS management. 4. Mentor the KCCA staff in order to build their skills in HIV/AIDS care 5. Advocate for the rights of clients through mobilization and referral for support and other means as and where necessary 6. Participate in drawing up schedules for the Short Tram Technical Assistance Tram (STTAT) in the KCCA facilities. 7. Participate in technical support supervision of HIV /AIDS activities in KCCA facilities. 8. Participate in the planning, budgeting and report generation for STTAT related activities. 9. Ensure quality in all activities conducted by the STTAT. 10. Communicate professionally in writing as well as generation of reports. 11. Ensure that all activities pertaining to HIV
prevention, care and treatment services are offered according to National policies and guidelines. 12. Any others responsibilities assigned by management in line with project scope of work Key outputs: • Improved quality of service provision in supported HIV clinics • Improved linkages of HIV positive persons identified through HCT (both Community and PITC) to care. • Accreditation of sites that are yet unaccredited for provision of Anti-retroviral therapy services.
COMPENSATION: Compensation for the position will be commensurate with experience, and training.
Job requirement Educational Requirements: • MBCHB degree from a recognized university. • Must he registered with the Uganda Dental and Medical Practitioners Council • At least 2 years of post-qualification professional experience • Formal training in HIV/AIDS care and treatment for medical officers including Pediatric care, Adult care and PMTCT preferred. • Use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, email and Internet. Knowledge. Abilities and Skills: • Knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS related issues • Knowledge of good clinical procedures and practices • Ability to work effectively in a team as well as working with KCCA teams
