PROTECTING FAMILIES AGAINST AIDS (PREFA) is a Ugandan national Non Governmental Organization (NGO) that was formed in 2004. PREFA's mission is to assist Uganda's efforts in enhancing access to quality HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment, and support to families. PREFA's activities primarily focus on Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV as the entry point to other HIV prevention, care and support services. PREFA is looking for competent personnel to fill the following positions:
1.Job Title: Program Officer - West Nile Region
Reports to: Program Manager
Duty station: Arua
Job summary:
Provide technical support and oversight to the PMTCT implementing Districts of Arua, Nebbi, Nyadra, Yumbe, Moyo, Koboko, and Adjuman, and partners where PREFA is working to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services.
Roles and responsibilities
Participate in the development of overall districts' strategy to scale up quality PMTCT services, monitor performance at districts for compliance with MoU provisions, and ensure PREFA/MOH goals and objectives are met; provide on-going technical support to District Health Team (DHT) for PMTCT service provision, assess district staff capacity and training needs and design appropriate PMTCT related trainings, support procurement of buffer stocks for all supplies and consumables, participate in the joint District-based Partners' activities to share experience and knowledge, organize, monitor and evaluate some operational research activities as and when required by PREFA/MOH, represent PREFA at meetings/workshops related with District PMTCT activities, review and submit to head office all district programmatic and financial requests and reports, prepare and submit monthly programmatic activity reports to the Program Manager, write programmatic reports for PREFA and to partners/donors as and when required by management.
Person specifications
The suitable candidate must have a first degree in health sciences (medicine, public health, nursing) or a degree in development studies or social sciences. Masters in Public Health is an added advantage. Professional experience working in HIV/AIDS prevention and care, practical experience working with partners at district and community level in HIV/AIDS work and in health management.
Additional qualifications and skills desired
At least 3 years of professional experience working in HIV/AIDS prevention and care, Practical experience working with partners at district and community level in HIV/AIDS work, Good understanding of current issues and developments in the field of HIV/AIDS and especially PMTCT, VCT and ART, j Practical experience in health management., Strong skills in Management and Networking, Excellent verbal communication and writing skills, Knowledge of Alur language is an added advantage
