Internal Auditor
The Internal Controller is primarily responsible for the internal audit function in HFHU by conducting operational reviews at the field office branches and affiliates and National Office. The Internal Controller will work very closely with the auditors in ensuring compliance with Habitat for Humanity International standards.
The purpose of this post is to:
• Carry-out an independent appraisal of the effectiveness of the policies, procedures and standards by which HFHU's resources are managed.
• Act as facilitator in business risk management and carry-out value for money reviews, thus assist HFHU management in effective discharge of its roles.
Reports to: National Director and Finance & Audit Committee of Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Mission and Stewardship-Ensure that the Mission, Vision, Goals and Policies of HFHU are upheld.
2. Systems Review: Work with board and management to ensure a system is in place which ensures that all major risks of the HFHU are identified and analysed.
3. To make recommendations on the systems and procedures being reviewed, report on the findings and recommendations.
4. Operational Reviews-Conduct regular operational reviews of HFHU, ensuring that funds and assets are used according to organizational policies and procedures.
5. Internal Audit / Operational Review-Prepare annual workplan for department, estimating resource needs, scheduling and assigning work.
6. Audit Follow-up - Monitor and follow up agreed upon actions in response to external and internal audit management letters and audit recommendations.
7. Monitoring and Controls - Conduct occasional petty cash counts.
8. Fraud - Develop systems and processes that would mitigate against fraud.
Job requirement
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
A University degree in accounting from a recognized university / institution with any of the following: CIMA, ACCA, IIA, ICSA, ACOMA.
• Knowledge of audit procedures, including planning, techniques, test and sampling methods involved in conducting audits.
• Knowledge of computerised accounting (Sun Systems preferred).
• Ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts and to prepare and present concise oral and written reports.
• Ability to maintain current knowledge of developments in internal audit practices.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional audit experience in a busy auditing or financial environment.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
• Willing to uphold Christian principles of HFHU.
• High level of integrity combined with ability to make bold and timely decisions.
• Available to work between the hours of 8.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday through Friday, and sometimes after working hours including weekends.
