Amongst the key strategic program issues developed by Salama Shield Foundation in Uganda, is the setting up of a vocational education centre in Lyantonde.
Salama Vocational Education Centre – Lyantonde will provide skill acquisition opportunities that support a literate and multi-skilled community within a framework of sustainable jobs, self-reliance, and moral respect. The education centre will offer diplomas in vocational skills in Sustainable Tropical Agriculture, Built Environment (Brick Laying & Concrete practice and Carpentry & Joinery), Technology, Textiles & Design, Cosmetology & Hair Dressing, and Hospitality & Hotel Management.

IT Technician
Reports to: Deputy Principal.
Location: Lyantonde.
Scope of work:
To provide support to Salama Vocational Education Centre – Lyantonde users and manage IT systems that results in operational efficiencies and effectiveness and contributes
Towards the attainment of the school’s objectives and mandate.
Duties/Responsibilities
Participates in development and specification of IT solutions
Participates in the maintenance and support of all systems, including user support
Assists in putting in place a process of resolving ICT problems within set timelines
Assists in ensuring that the IT network platform delivers on the school objectives
Participates in enforcement of the school ICT policies and procedures
Participates in developing user training programmes
Participates in training of users.
Requirement:
Qualifications:
An undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent with Microsoft Certified System Engineer 2003 or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator certification. Knowledge of various client/ server topographies and licensing strategies would be an asset.
Experience:
At least two years’ experience in support of users and management of IT systems. Candidates with teaching experience will have an added advantage.
Knowledge and Skills:
Diagnosing and resolving problems on ICT systems
Managing local area networks
Maintaining and servicing ICT hardware
Use of Desktop Microsoft 0/S and common Microsoft Office Applications
Managing equipment on ICT systems
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of best security practices and firewall hardware configuration
Strong understanding of routing and server management
Experience with remote access technologies and wireless links.
Strong understanding of backup technology and best practices.
Proficiency in the English language.
